Come join us for an eco campout at Mitchell Park in Cattai, one of the last local havens for rare ecosystems and wildlife!
This event intends to give young people aged 18 to 30-something the opportunity to take action to restore bushland in North-west Sydney and connect with like-minded people who are passionate about habitat and biodiversity.
For our October Get Your Hands Dirty event we’re heading to a real gem! National Parks will be hosting us for the weekend at their Field Studies Centre in Mitchell Park. Camp outdoors under the stars or roll out a sleeping mat indoors for a more low maintenance trip.
Over the weekend, we’ll be joined by local experts who will introduce us to the bushland and the wildlife that call it home. Think ancient eucalypts, winding creeks, woodland birds, bats, wallabies and even a threatened yellow bellied glider, if we’re lucky! To care for their habitat, we’ll also be tackling woody weeds that are threatening the endangered ecological communities in the park.
So, if you’ve always been keen to make a difference but weren’t sure where to start, or just want a weekend in the bush with some like-minded peeps, now’s your chance to get involved.
On-site training and tools are provided.
For the weekend we will need you to bring,
- long sleeved shirt and long pants for Landcare activities on
- sturdy closed toe shoes
- gardening gloves
- a hat / sunscreen
- sunglasses
- water bottle and 1-2 litres drinking water
- camping gear for sleeping outdoors (tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, etc.) OR
- a sleeping mat, pillow, sleeping bag etc. for sleeping inside the Field Studies Centre
Due to COVID-19 we will need you to bring your own food, snacks, and cooking equipment for the weekend. You will also need to provide your own transportation to Mitchell Park.
There are toilets, shower facilities, a kitchen and refrigerators available at the campsite where we’ll be staying.We aim to kick things off at 8.30AM on Saturday and wrap things up by 3PM on Sunday to leave time for travelling back home.
