While the world’s attention has understandably been on the tragedies and uncertainties of the pandemic, the climate change emergency has not gone away. But as we look ahead to a post-COVID world, we have a new and positive pivot point.
This talk will provide an update on how we are tracking with emissions in relation to the Paris targets, how climate impacts are ramping up, and how we can use the lessons of the pandemic to shape a more positive future.
Distinguished Professor Lesley Hughes
Lesley Hughes is Distinguished Professor of Biology and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Integrity & Development) at Macquarie University. She has been researching the impacts of climate change on species and ecosystems for more than 20 years. She is a former Lead Author in the IPCC’s 4th and 5th Assessment Report, a former federal Climate Commissioner and now a Councillor with the Climate Council of Australia. Lesley is also a member of the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists and a Director of WWF-Australia.
