The Bathurst Community Climate Action Network (BCCAN) was established in 2006 by members of the local community concerned by what they were learning about greenhouse gas emissions and their impact on the global climate. It came about from a group of individuals who sought to be involved in the Bathurst Region response to one of the greatest challenges facing life on earth.
The organisation is a network of organisations and individuals working together to promote action on the challenge of climate change and sustainable equitable development.
The principal focus is to work with local government, individuals and organisations in this shared challenge.
A number of action planning teams have been set up so that members might focus their attention on a specific area of interest or concern. These include energy, the built environment and urban vegetation. BCCAN regularly screens films on issues related to climate change and resource depletion.
Practically in reaching out to the community, BCCAN conducts or supports other initiatives such as workshops, seminars, expos and information sharing to help raise community awareness and skill.
