Member Profile

The Jewish Ecological Coalition, JECO, is a not-for-profit organisation, founded in Melbourne, Australia in July 2003. We maintain a public fund that is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient on the Register of Environmental Organisations.

The Jewish Ecological Coalition (JECO) was established to emphasise and deepen the Jewish commitment to sustainability and to raise awareness within and beyond the Jewish community about Judaism’s strong environmental message.

We aim to:

  • Educate and encourage individuals to “tread softly on the face of the earth” – to minimise their environmental footprint;
  • Work with individuals and organisations to prevent and repair environmental damage;
  • Build bridges between the Jewish and wider community by working together for sustainability.

We are not affiliated with and we do not promote or endorse any political party.

We recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians.  We are committed to honouring their unique cultural, and spiritual relationship to the land, air, waters and seas—as well as their rich contributions to society. We acknowledge the sovereignty, land, and law of First Nations were never ceded—this always was and always will be the Land of First Nations people.
